The arc discharge occurs in sodium vapor. The lamp is a source that emits yellow light in the spectral range with wavelengths of 589 and 589.6 nm and is used in spectrophotometers, spectroscopy, refractometry, polarimetry, chemistry, lighting engineering, medical equipment, laboratory equipment, and also as a reference lamp in polarimeters (CIRCLE POLARIMETER SM-3, polarimeter SM-3B). The lamps operate in alternating current electrical networks with a voltage of 127 - 220 V and a frequency of 50 Hz and are connected to the network together with ballasts that ensure the ignition of the lamps, normal operation and the elimination of radio interference.
