Laboratory installation "Collision of balls" by Naurash
Naurash's "Collision of Balls" installation provides a central impact of two steel balls of the same or different masses, one of which is at rest before the collision. The balls are suspended on height-adjustable bifilar hangers, which are attached to a bracket at the top of the stand. To ensure stable initial conditions, there is a starting device controlled from a computer. The readings from the optoelectric sensors are displayed on the computer screen in the form of two diagrams showing the change in the state of each sensor (open/closed) over time. The data processing program allows you to set two markers at the points where the sensor state changed and determine the time interval between these events. The velocities of the balls after interaction, calculated from the overlap time of the optoelectric sensors (the speed of the ball is determined by dividing its diameter by the time during which it overlapped the optical axis of the sensor), are compared with the calculated values obtained under the assumption of a perfectly elastic impact.
