Laboratory installation "Study of mechanical resonance" Naurash

The laboratory setup “Study of Mechanical Resonance” consists of a cart that can move along a guide with low friction (magnetic suspension), located between two springs, one of which is fixed to the guide, and the second is stretched by a thread attached to a disk rotated by an engine at some distance from its center. The set includes 2 trolleys, very different in resistance to movement. The driving force frequency changes when the engine speed decreases or increases, which is controlled using an optoelectric sensor. Measuring the coordinates of the cart is carried out using a distance sensor, which allows you to display a graph of the coordinates versus time and determine from it the amplitude and frequency of free oscillations (1st stage of work). At the 2nd stage (obtaining resonance curves), the oscillation amplitude is measured based on the readings of the distance sensor, and the frequency of the driving force is measured based on data coming from the optoelectric sensor. The obtained data is collected in a table and displayed on the screen in the form of a graph of the oscillation amplitude versus frequency (resonance curve). This allows you to determine the resonant frequency and evaluate the quality factor of the oscillating system.
