Bostwick mechanical consistometer
Bostwick mechanical consistometer used to determine the degree of viscosity by measuring the flow distance of the material, under the influence of its own mass, over a certain period of time (according to ASTM F1080-93 (2019) and is intended for visual assessment of the quality of the food product and does not imply the study of its properties in an accurate digital assessment. The device can also check the consistency of animal feed and standardize batches of these products. The consistometer is often used in the chemical, paint and cosmetics industries. The Bostwick consistometer consists of a trough divided into two sections by a shutter. The small section is storage and is designed to load the material that will be tested. The bottom of the large section is graduated in increments of 0.5 cm. The flap is the starting point and is secured with a latch. During operation, the damper smoothly slides along the chute along two guides on the side walls. The latch releases the fastenings above the damper that hold it in the closed position. Two level-adjustable screws determine the height of the storage tank on one side of the gutter. To operate the consistometer, a stopwatch (timer) is required; it is not included in the delivery package. The Bostwick Consistometer allows you to test the viscosity of the following products: jelly; jam (jams); sauces; tomato paste (according to GOST 3343-2017 “Concentrated tomato products. General technical conditions”); any semi-liquid food products such as ketchup, condensed milk, pastes and seasonings, baby food, all types of fruit and meat purees. The device is not included in the State Register of Measuring Instruments and is used for comparative determination of the viscosity level of products for technological purposes.
